Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What ages can play?
7th District Recreation Council has age brackets for all players from kindergarten through 12th grade.
Who coaches the teams?
All coaches are parent volunteers (experience is not needed). In the unlikely event that no parent from a specific age group will coach, then registrations will be refunded.
How many players are on a team?
Clinic (5-6 year olds) has 6 players per team, but can occasionally have 7. Under-7 (U-7) through Under-14 (U-14) play 7 players on the field at a time and has a maximum of 13 players per team. Under 16/18 (U-16/18) play 11 on the field at a time. Each team carries a maximum of 17 players. If a team fills up, players are placed on a wait list until enough registrations are received to form an additional team(s).
How do I determine what age bracket my child is in?
The Northern Baltimore County Recreation Councils divides players Age. We use July 31st as the cutoff date. This is consistent with the rest of the sports in the area. Please see the registration flyer for exact breakdown. If the parents feel the player has the abilities, they may contact the commissioner and request that the player “play up” to the next age bracket. This decision will be determined on a case by case basis. If the player is needed to fill a team in their own age bracket, they may not play up. This decision will be made with the needs of the overall program fulfilled first. No player will be allowed to “play down”
Can I pick the team my child plays on?
Unfortunately, no. The goal of Recreation sports is to have fun, and learn something about the game and how it is played. In order to do this fairly, we spread out the talent within the teams to try to make all teams as even as possible. Requests for teammate may be made, but there are no guarantees with the exception of siblings living in the same household.
How young can my child start soccer?
|
Clinic level play is for kindergartens. Although we have had players who were in preschool in clinic, we just ask that they play until their grade level catches up.

Does my child have to attend 7th District Elementary School?
|
NO. 7th District Recreation Council has age brackets for all players from 5 years old through age 18. We do help out neighboring councils if they have full team and we have openings. We have players that live in Pennsylvania also. “The more the merrier !!”

Does everyone get to play?
|
The short answer is yes. But there are times when we do not get enough players for a team, or too many for 1 team, but not enough for a 2nd team. These cases are handled individually between the commissioner and the coach(es). Registrants are placed onto teams in the order their registrations are received.

What equipment does my child need?
|
Soccer is a simple sport with little equipment needed. The league requires shin guards for ALL players. They are to be worn UNDER the socks. Cleats are not required, but recommended when the fields are wet, as they improve traction and decrease the chance for a twisted ankle. The council provides most participants with socks to keep, and depending on the age bracket, a uniform to keep (Clinic, U-7, U-8 & U-18) or a uniform to borrow for the season (U-10 through U-14).

Why are there 2 different registration costs?
|
This was done to encourage early registrations. In order to have equipment, uniforms, and coaching staff in place for the beginning of the season, I really need the extra time. In the past when everyone waited until the last week, I was not able to organize the coaches, plan the meeting, order the equipment and get it together before we get the fields on August first - considering this all happens in the summer.
